Soybean Cyst Nematode Symptoms Starting!
Shape-shifting worms that grow so large that they rupture out of the tissue they are feeding upon. Sounds like the plot for a horror movie doesn't it?  Believe it or not, this is the basic biology of a widespread, serious parasite of soybeans - the Soybean Cyst Nematode.
 
These microscopic worms burrow through cells, injecting foreign compounds through hypodermic-needle like mouth parts, altering the basic biology of the cells being fed upon. Scared yet? Flying High Again  
Hyland Seeds will once again be launching the Farmers Feed Cities! & 4-H Ontario Harvest Balloon this coming summer

  

The 65-foot tall yellow hot air balloon will be floating over communities across Ontario starting in August. The balloon will help draw attention to the vital contributions that growers make to our daily food production and show support for the farm families in our communities.  

Some Fun Facts about the Harvest Balloon's 2008 Tour:

  • 2,115,000-the number of people who had the opportunity to see the balloon soar across their town
  • 1,110-the number of metres of fabric used to build the balloon
  • 762-the highest soaring height (in metres) the balloon reached
